We were given a completely bare space, however the unusual layout presented several challenges. So we needed to find ways to create a smooth transition from one area to the next while clearly showcasing the different sections. This was primarily done in the flooring, one of the most visual elements when walking through the space.
The ‘clouds’ of pattern on the floors guide the shoppers from one zone to another making it easier to follow through. This concept was also mirrored in the gypsum soffit to add a bit of a playful flare to the usually mundane ceiling in retail outlets.
Another key element was the design of a variety of display units. Rather than just providing typical shelving systems, we also designed a series of mini-houses that showcase a complete combination of products in one space. This not only provides shoppers with heaps of inspiration for their own homes, but also have enough adaptability for the ‘show-houses’ to be frequently staged.
The ‘mini-houses’ are definitely our pick; their playful aesthetic and miniature size provide the perfect scenario for mini-stories of inspiration, be it with the day-to-day tasks of parents or even nursery décor. Needless to say, they also serve as little playhouses when the children need to be kept occupied.
As a brand, Baby World prides itself on providing their clientele with a ‘one-stop shop’ solution to their everyday needs. This statement reflects both towards the needs of parents and mothers in particular, as well as the needs of infants and toddlers. We were therefore asked to create a space that would fulfill all these requirements from a functional perspective but also provide a welcoming environment that would put all parents at ease.
Having a large glass façade meant we were able to spatially plan in a manner that would take most advantage of the natural light we have flooding through. This resulted in a bright and airy space that encourages happy thoughts.
The warm pastel tones embrace a more tranquil feel to the typical hectic life of parenthood, giving shoppers a sense of relaxation while they shop. This is also reiterated with the incorporation of several functional spaces including a private feeding room and changing station. The jungle feel and neon lighting salute the little shoppers too, keeping them amused while the parents carry on with their shopping.
